Royal was contracted by the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System to design a new Fixed Decontamination Unit outside of their emergency room facilities. This is the first fixed decontamination facility for any VA Medical Center and a new type of building that will soon be typical of all major medical facilities. The VA Biloxi placed itself at the forefront of this trend with a fixed facility in lieu of the typical trailer type facilities utilized at most VA hospitals.  This new brick and concrete masonry unit facility includes 3 shower bays with 3 shower areas per bay.  The plumbing system is designed to divert any contaminants from the facility to an underground chemical storage tank instead of the local sanitary sewer system. The HVAC system was designed to filter contaminants from the interior and supply 100% fresh air to the facility.  The building was designed to fit in with the distinct style of the Biloxi VAMC campus.  The design scope of work included architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and landscape design to fully integrate the new building with the existing facility in both function and appearance.
