Royal was contracted by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide an in-depth study and engineering services for the water, sanitary and storm sewer systems for the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center Campus in Jackson, Mississippi. Under this contract, Royal has evaluated deficiencies, recommended improvements and provided preliminary engineering design for approved corrections to the underground utility system.

The existing system consists of nearly 12,000’ of sanitary and storm sewer lines connected through nearly 50 manholes and about a 4,600’ water main loop connected to a well and elevated tank system. The water system is backed up by two connections to the City’s water mains. Royal’s tasks include site investigation, data analysis, and preliminary and final engineering design services for the VAMC’s underground utility system.

A system-wide site investigation was completed, Royal conducted an existing site condition assessment and survey and located existing utilities via as-built research and utility location survey. A Sewer System Evaluation and Survey (SSES) was performed, inclusive of CCTV and cleaning of the sewer system as well as inspection of manholes. Royal also completed preliminary system mapping as part of the investigation.

Royal performed a review of compiled data and provided the VA with a final system map, RDSS results, and a system loading report. Final design of required system repairs has been complete, and construction services will include site visits and responding to contractor’s requests for information.
